Tere was a time, when our Magyar ancestors were conducting military campaigns from Byzantine to Bremen, when the entire European continent o ered up the following prayer: A sagittis Hungarorum libera nos, Domine! – “God save us from the arrows of the Hungarians!” In eight months in 954 AD, the Hungarian chie ain Bulcsú covered ve thousand kilometres with the best army of the era, defeating all his enemies in Europe along the way. The emperors Leo VI (“the Wise”), Constantine VII (the “Purple-born”) and the western chroniclers all agreed that the Hungarians could not be beaten for morale among troops, discipline and horseback archery. The goal of the Kassai Horseback Archery School is to revive this near-forgotten military art. The training demands that horseback archers achieve a level of skill similar to that of our ancestors. e archer has to be able to shoot rapidly and accurately from a galloping horse, at any speed, and over an arc of 180 degrees in either direction.
The training method and the rules of the sport follow the principle of “that which is small is beautiful, that which is simple is good”. On a 99-metre-long track, a rider must keep a target under continuous re. During the gallop the horseback archer shoots in all directions. is training in the basics of horseback archery is an element in the revival of our ancestors’ legendary equestrian skill. Initially this training method was simply a practice exercise; nowadays it is the basis of the sport of horseback archery, which has very simple rules, but requires outstanding expertise and is rapidly spreading around the world.
Kassai-féle lovasíjász módszer
A sagittis Hungarorum libera nos, Domine! – „A magyarok nyilaitól ments meg, Uram, minket!” – imádkozta egész Európa. Őseink Bizánctól Brémáig folytattak hadjáratokat. Bulcsú 954-ben az akkori világ legjobb haderejével nyolc hónap leforgása alatt ötezer kilométert tesz meg, felmor- zsolva maga előtt minden ellenséges alakulatot Európá- ban. Bölcs Leó, Bíborbanszületett Konstantin és a nyugati krónikások egybehangzó véleménye a magyarokról, hogy harci szellemben, fegyelemben és lóról való nyilazásban fe- lülmúlhatatlanok. A Kassai Lovasíjász Iskola célja ennek az elfeledett harci művészetnek az újjáélesztése.
A képzés során a lovasíjásznak el kell érni azt a szintet, melyet őseink magukénak tudhattak. Vágtató ló hátáról a ló sebességétől függetlenül gyors és pontos lövéseket kell leadni előre, oldalra, hátrafelé 180 fokos szöget bezárva.
A gyakorlás módszere és a sportág szabályzata az „ami ki- csi szép, ami egyszerű jó” alapelvet követi.
Egy 99 méteres pálya közepén a pálya síkjától 9 méterre elhelyezett célt, ami követi a lovast, folyamatos tűz alatt kell tartani. A vágta során a lovasíjász előre, oldalra és hát- rafelé adja le a lövéseket, elsajátítva a lovasíjászat alapjait, és ezzel újraélesztve őseink legendás lovasíjásztudását. Ez a rendszer kezdetben csak a gyakorlás eszköze volt, jelen- leg a lovasíjászat mint sportág alapját szolgáltatja.
A szabályrendszerében végtelen egyszerű, de végrehajtá- sában rendkívüli felkészültséget igénylő sportág robbanás- szerűen terjed a világban.
